what the sworn translation is for

If you do not know what and where to find a professional qualified to do this work, check out our post and clarify all your doubts.

What is The Translation?

Unlike literary or technical texts, which can be translated by anyone who feels fit for this task, no document written in foreign language (certificates, contracts, power of attorney, academic documents, etc.) is valid legal in Brazil if it is not accompanied by the respective translation — a version that faithfully reproduces the content of the original document and which is made by a certified professional, the Sworn Translator .

Who is the Sworn Translator?

The public translator, better known as Sworn Translator, is the professional concursado and qualified by the Commercial Board of the state to conduct translations of official documents. It is also the attribution of the Sworn Translator to act as an interpreter in court, in notaries or other places where there is a need for official interpretation. The Sworn Translator responds legally for the translation, and may be penalized and even lose his registration in case of errors.

Why do I need a Translation?

This requirement stems from Federal Decree No. 13,609 of 1943. The Juramentada Translation has public faith, thatis, officially reflects in Portuguese the content of the original document in foreign language. Versions made by a Sworn Translator for other languages are recognized by many countries. However, there are exceptions and it is essential to check in advance whether a translation made here will be accepted abroad.Read it out for more information: language translation
